What I REALLY don’t understand is when people, bored or disinterested in some ongoing discourse about an issue, demand that everyone else shut up about it because “bluh wuh why isn’t all of the internetz pertaining to my sole interests.” There’s an unfollow button. Use it. There’s also a mechanism for removing certain undesirable words from tag searches. Don’t participate in the dialogue if you don’t want to participate.

By the way, I personally have no qualms with Balderdash Cummerbund for taking the role. Actors will take what they get, and he was actually astonishing in the movie, even if he comes off as a generally smarmy ass in real life. But this is a systemic problem and we’re not going to get anything changed if we shut up just because some people don’t care.

I just found out that a friend of mine went to school with Colin Firth’s son and they did a lot of school plays together and Colin Firth would come watch them and remark on what a gifted actress she was. So one day she asked him if he would be willing to write her a college recommendation letter. He did.

Also, she has his email address and when he won the Oscar she emailed him to congratulate him and he emailed her back thanking her and sending her his best wishes.

I just scrolled down my newsfeed and found posts from four disparate Tumblrs about some newly shitty thing he’s said on Twitter. I generally have the same reaction to this that Tumblr does every time the writers on Game of Thrones has Joffrey kill or torture some poor woman—it’s like, yes, yes, we get it, he’s soul-sucking scum and infuriating, but redundantly so. I can’t really turn off Game of Thrones, but we can all stop giving a shit about what Donald Trump has to say, unless you have a particular interest in elevated blood pressure and experiencing moments of swooping rage.

Tip for all my student readers: if you’re too lazy to use a bibliography creator like NoodleBib or RefWorks, let Google generate your bibliography entries for you. All you have to do is google the article/book title in Google Scholar, click “cite” at the bottom of the search result, and copy either the MLA, APA, or Chicago cite into your word document.
